Portion Control and Why It Matters

Do you eat healthy but still can't lose weight? Wonder what's wrong with your diet? Believe it or not, healthy foods can still make you gain weight. "Clean" foods, such as almonds, pumpkin seeds, bananas, and grains, contain calories too. It all comes down to portion sizes.

How Important Is Serving Size?

How much you eat is just as important as what you eat. Nowadays, food portions are bigger than ever. Go to any restaurant and you'll get enough food on the plate to feed two or three people. Oversized portions are a contributing factor to weight gain.

Most dieters fail to reach their weight loss goals simply because they eat and drink too much. For instance, one serving (3 oz) of salmon has 180 calories. A typical portion served in restaurants is at least two servings. If you add sweet potatoes, olive oil, or rice to the mix, you’ll get over 600 calories from one meal. Not to mention the sauces and beverages!

If you want to shed pounds, track your portions. This way, you'll know exactly how many calories you're taking in. Serving size is anything but obvious. Additionally, oversize portions make you eat more. That’s why we designed CLICK as a meal replacement drink, all the nutrition, energy and decedent taste you need at 120 calories. Easy Portion Control Tricks

The best way to control your portions is to use a food scale. Your fist, thumb, and cupped hand can give a clear picture of how much you should eat too. For example, a serving of meat or cheese should be the same size as the palm of your hand. A serving of fat should not exceed the size of your thumb. Use these tips when eating out to make portion control easier.

If you’re always hungry, choose low-calorie, high-volume foods, such as lettuce, kale, spinach, and cabbage. With less than 60 calories per cup, they keep you full and suppress appetite.  Also, watch your portions when eating nuts, seeds, fruits, and grains. Increasing your protein intake will help ward off hunger and cravings. A healthy drink, such as CLICK Coffee Protein Drink, will fill you up quickly and make it easier to stick to your diet.
